This is the whole rinse in one box: a washer bottle, a basin that sits under the ear and catches the water, two bulb syringes, five spare tips and a brush for cleaning it all afterwards.
You fill it with warm water. That is all it needs. If the wax is hard, softening it for a few days first with hydrogen peroxide or a pharmacy softening drop makes the difference between a rinse that works and one that does not.
The tips are the reason it is controllable: they direct the flow rather than letting you push a bulb syringe blindly at your ear, and there are five of them so nobody has to share.
Work in short bursts and let the water drain into the basin between them. Stop when it runs clear or when you have had enough. There is no benefit in forcing a session, and hard impacted wax is a job for a clinic with suction and a proper view.
Leave it alone if you have grommets, a perforated eardrum, a current infection, discharge or ear pain, or if you have had ear surgery. Water behind a perforated eardrum is a real problem. If you have hearing loss, ringing or dizziness, see a doctor first.

What do I put in the bottle?
Warm water. Some people add a little hydrogen peroxide first to soften hardened wax. Nothing else is needed and the kit does not include a solution.
Does it come with the solution?
No. The kit is the hardware. Warm water is what you fill it with.
Do I reuse a tip or fit a new one each time?
The tips are washable and reusable. There are five in the kit so each person in the house can have their own, which is the sensible way to use them.
How long do I have to keep pumping?
It varies with how much wax there is. Work in short bursts, let the water drain into the basin, and stop when it runs clear or when you have had enough. Do not keep going at it in one session.
Is it safe to use at home?
It is designed for home use and the tips control the flow so the water goes where you want it. Use warm, not hot, water, keep the pressure gentle, and stop if it hurts.
Who should not use it?
Anyone with grommets, a perforated eardrum, a current ear infection, ear discharge, ear pain, recent ear surgery or a known eardrum problem. If you are not sure, ask a doctor first.
Can children use it?
The pressure is gentle enough for older children, but an adult should do it and only if the child has no ear problems. For a small child, ask a doctor first.
Can I use it after ear surgery?
Not without asking the surgeon or your doctor. Do not irrigate an ear that has been operated on until you have been told it is fine.
What if it is uncomfortable?
Stop. Discomfort usually means the water is too hot, the pressure is too high or the tip is in too far. If pain or hearing loss continues, see a doctor.
Are there any risks?
Irrigation can cause dizziness if the water is much warmer or cooler than body temperature, and it should never be used on an ear with a hole in the eardrum. Used gently with warm water, most people have no trouble.
Will it clear a blockage?
Softened wax often flushes out. Hard, impacted wax may not, and that is a job for a clinic rather than something to force at home.
How often should I use it?
Only when you feel you need to. Ears clear themselves most of the time, and cleaning them constantly is what causes problems.
Does it work on all types of wax?
Soft and moderately hard wax usually. Very hard, dry wax is easier if you soften it for a few days first.
Is it better than cotton buds?
Cotton buds push wax further in, which is the opposite of what you want. Rinsing works with the ear rather than against it.
How does it compare to ear candling?
They are different things. Irrigation is a rinse. Candling is a relaxation ritual and does not remove wax.
Will it improve my hearing?
If muffled hearing is caused by wax and the wax comes out, hearing often feels clearer. If your hearing has changed for any other reason, see a doctor or an audiologist.
Does it prevent ear infections?
No. It is a cleaning tool, not a treatment, and it should not be used on an ear that is already infected.
Is it recommended by healthcare professionals?
Irrigation is a recognised way of dealing with wax and clinics use their own equipment for it. We are not claiming any endorsement of this kit.
Does it come with different nozzle sizes?
It comes with five identical spare tips. There is one size.
What is it made of?
The bottle and basin are plastic and the tubing is silicone.
Is it easy to use if I have never done this before?
Yes. Fill the bottle with warm water, fit a tip, tilt your head over the basin and squeeze gently. The instructions are in the box.

How to use it
Fill the bottle with warm water, not hot. Some people soften hard wax for a
few days first with a little hydrogen peroxide or a softening drop from the
pharmacy. Fit a tip, tilt your head over the basin, and squeeze gently in short
bursts. Let the water drain out between bursts.
Stop when the water runs clear, or when you have had enough. There is no prize
for doing this in one go, and working at an ear that is not co-operating is how
people hurt themselves.
Afterwards, rinse everything in warm soapy water, wash the tips separately, and
let it dry before it goes away.
When not to use it
Do not irrigate an ear if you have grommets, a perforated eardrum, a current
infection, discharge, ear pain, a recent ear operation, or any known problem
with the eardrum. Water behind a perforation is a genuine problem, not a
theoretical one.
If you have hearing loss, ringing, pain or dizziness, see a doctor rather than
rinsing. And if the wax is hard, dry and stuck, a clinic has suction and a
better view than you do.
Why rinsing rather than a cotton bud
A cotton bud takes some wax out and pushes the rest further in, which is the
opposite of what you wanted. Ears also clear themselves most of the time, and
the people who have the most trouble with wax are often the ones cleaning their
ears the most.
Rinsing works with the ear rather than against it: warm water softens, gravity
and a gentle flow do the rest, and nothing goes deep into the canal.
Warm water, not hot and not cold
Water that is much warmer or cooler than body temperature can make you dizzy
for a moment. It passes, but it is unpleasant and avoidable. Aim for body
temperature and test it before it goes anywhere near your ear.
